Standing Motion: During the July AMC meeting, Chairman Jean Becker thanked Abbie Salny for her many years of service and introduced our new Supervisory Psychologist. Both the audience and the AMC rose instantly to give Dr. Salny the longest standing ovation in this editor's memory. Abbie's retirement marks the end of the Supervisory Psychologist being a volunteer.

Exbellsion: A vote on the Hearings Committee's recommendation to expel Carole Bell for Acts Inimical was taken at the July AMC meeting. Bob Beatty announced at the beginning of the discussion that he would recuse himself from the voting. Dave Remine said he would not recuse himself, but would abstain. Six AMC members voted against using written ballots for the expulsion motion: Gilbert, Kirsch, Lytle, Magnus, Vasiliauskas and Wilterding. The Ombudsman and Counsel counted the written ballots and the count was announced as 16-3-2 to concur with the decision of the Hearings Committee. After the break, a change was announced with the number voting against the motion becoming 4, due to an original misreading of the ballots.

Over Eager: Mike Eager of San Francisco Regional Mensa made a motion at the Annual Business Meeting to bring to referendum a Bylaws amendment that would make the Election Committee responsible for verifying the accuracy of candidates' statements and permit sanctions against anyone who made blatantly false statements. According to the Bylaws, amendments to our Bylaws may be proposed "XII (2)(b) By a vote of a majority of the members participating in the annual business meeting at an Annual Gathering." The controversial Eager motion brought so much discussion to the heavily attended meeting that Chairman Jean Becker announced that next year she would not entertain motions to amend the Bylaws from the floor of the Annual Business Meeting. As of press time, the Chairman has made no formal retraction of her statement.
